Extended Day Counselor Position

Village Extended Day services is looking for morning/afternoon teachers/counselors for multiple after school Extended Day Programs within St. Johns County Public Schools. Each teachers/counselor will be assigned a group of elementary age children (kindergarten through sixth grade) for whom they will be responsible for. Counselors will be held responsible for following lesson plans for art/crafts, cooking, science, and gross motor activities etc. Counselors will also utilize classroom management and behavior management within their group; assist children with homework; ensure child safety throughout the day and especially on the playground; and assume duties to close-down the program including clean up. If a teacher/counselor is interested in leadership opportunities within our program, after experience is gained, additional administrative responsibilities may be available through our “lead counselor” position.

We are interested in fun, energetic, creative individuals who are willing to be silly with the children yet are still able to maintain control of their assigned group. Our Extended Day teachers/counselors become role models for our students and enjoy making a difference in the lives of children daily. Be prepared to become a rock star in the eyes of your students, should you be hired. A positive, upbeat attitude is a must. Many of our extended day counselors have had the same children since kindergarten and enjoy watching them grow and have close relationships with our children and families.

Part-time positions are available for Extended Day Teachers/Counselors working with children from grades K-6. Our program has a morning component from 6:30 am to 8:15 am and an afternoon component from approximately 2:00 pm (1:00 on Wednesdays) to between 5:15 and 6 pm. We are looking for interested individuals to work mornings only, afternoons only, or both shifts. We prefer 5 day a week counselors; however, we will consider MWF staff and TTh staff only if we find the right combination of staff. Pay will be commensurate with qualifications, between $12-16 hourly with the potential for a generous benefit package, tuition reimbursement, and bonuses. This is a great schedule for college students who have a set schedule or those who have worked in education as a teacher, aide, or paraprofessional.
